Maria Rosaria Basileo, born in Parma on May 14, 1975, is a specialized restorer with a thirty-year career in the recovery and conservation of cultural heritage. She has gained extraordinary experience in the restoration of stone materials, plaster, wax, metals, and archaeological artifacts, working on important monuments, archaeological sites, and artworks in Italy and abroad.
Education and Specialization
After obtaining a Diploma in Art Master at the “P. Toschi” Art Institute in Parma, specializing in Advertising Graphics, she expanded her skills at the Institute for Art and Restoration “Palazzo Spinelli” in Florence, where she earned qualifications as Restoration Technician and Restorer of Stone Materials, Plaster, Wax, Metals, and Archaeology, graduating with top marks.
Subsequently, she passed the selection for the Central Institute for Restoration (I.S.C.R.) in Rome, ranking first in the entrance exam. Her final thesis, dedicated to the altar of San Bernardino by Agostino di Duccio, was carried out in collaboration with the Opera del Duomo of Perugia and with the support of sector experts.
Maria Rosaria Basileo has also deepened her knowledge through courses in chemistry applied to restoration, receiving scholarships for interventions on archaeological artifacts in Italy and Turkey, contributing to conservation projects of finds from excavations.
Professional Experience
Throughout her career, she has worked on some of the most important monuments and artworks in Italy and abroad. Notable assignments include:
- Rome and Vatican City: restoration of the Sistine Chapel, the Gallery of Maps at the Vatican Museums, the Colosseum, the Fontana del Moro in Piazza Navona, decorations in Villa Farnesina, and the Temple of Minerva at the University La Sapienza.
- Naples and Pompeii: conservation interventions on archaeological finds, mosaics, and frescoes.
- Florence: restoration of Piazzale Michelangelo and frescoes in historic buildings.
- Paris: restoration of the Fontana degli Innocenti and historic buildings in Art Nouveau style.
- Lebanon: restoration of monuments in the Qadisha Valley and interventions on historic buildings.
- Hierapolis (Turkey): restoration of stone materials, metals, and archaeological finds from excavations.
She has also supervised the restoration and maintenance of artworks for museums, contemporary art galleries, and private collections, collaborating with prestigious institutions such as the MACRO Museum of Rome, the Santarelli Foundation, the Museum of Roman Civilization, the Uffizi, and numerous Italian universities.
